B-PEP and CAV Commend U.S. Surgeon General 's Declaration of Gun Violence as a Public Health Crisis

Newly Added:
The Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP) and the Greater Pittsburgh Coalition Against Violence (CAV) welcome the U.S. Surgeon General's designation of Gun Violence as a Public Health Crisis. We hope this additional attention to this cause will bring more impactful focus and effective solutions to the current devastation that persists in our neighborhoods and communities.

It is our hope that this attention from our Federal Government will direct additional attention, collaborations, funding, and resources towards programs and initiatives that work to interrupt and end gun violence.

If you'd like to assist B-PEP and the Greater Pittsburgh Coalition Against Violence with our antiviolence work, please call us at 412-212-8775

A Poem for Democracy

Renee Wilson

In the realm of politics, I hear your plea,

A voice calling for change, from you to me.

No chicken wings or ribs can sway your will,

All you desire is my vote, the power to instill.

On the record, my stance shall be clear,

Issues debated, resonating sincere.

Like a mountaintop cry, I'll raise my voice,

For I represent you, your concerns, your choice.

I won't keep silent, I'll cast my vote,

In favor or against, with each debate afloat.

A resounding "no" shall ring if I disagree,

But remember, it's your voice that empowers me.

As your representative, I won't discard,

Your hopes and dreams, not even when times are hard.

You're not old shoes, worn and tossed aside,

Your faith in me shall never subside.

Beyond the polls, victories or defeats,

We'll face the challenges, where progress meets.

Together we strive for a brighter day,

In unity, we'll find a hopeful way.

So let the poem be a testament, my friend,

To the power of your voice, on which I depend.

I promise to vote for us, not just for me,

For together we shape our democracy.
